Joel is from Deer Lodge Montana and his Great Great Grandfather founded Helmville Montana.

Joel has served his community by donating time and fishing trips to the Montana Land Reliance, the Nature Conservancy and Hooked on Fishing (a kids fishing program that encourages kids to get hooked on fishing instead of drugs).
