Born in what used to be the small town of Orangeville, Ontario to a house building dad and a giving spirited mom; looking back I realise they each had a lot of influence on who I am today especially from their divorce.
My dad went on to sell our family home and build a new one from the bottom up. At the age of 8 I would spend weekends with my dad and a hammer in hand driving nails, carrying firewood and watching him build his house as well as a number of others. This upbringing gave me the true understanding of what goes into building a house.
My mom as a single mom worked really hard to pull money together to buy and maintain her own home. At times when money was tight she rented the basement out and later when she remarried and had more kids they were able to renovate and make room for 5 bedrooms. My mom taught me what it was to make a house a home.
My dad also rented out areas of his house to a number of single dads with children as he understood that leveraging a house just made "good dollars and cents".
I always knew I wanted to be a homeowner and I have always loved working in the sales industry, however it wasn’t until I bought my own house here in Guelph as a single mom… 3 days later I was laid off, 5 days later the walls in my basement bathroom started leaking during spring thaw. I had so many questions: How could they hide this? How is this ok? How did my real estate lawyer and realtor not know what options I had… While I had actually explored being a real estate agent before, it was then that the idea became more than a career path, it became a mission to do better!
For the first couple years my daughter and I lived in the basement while I rented each of the 4 rooms upstairs out individually. The rental income completely paid for itself and even left me a little profit each month. My house gave me stability as it did my mom and dad, it gave me income, it gave me options and most importantly it has become a home to not just my daughter and I, but also to friends who have rented and soon to be my husband.
I love nothing more than to help others first find a house and then turn that into a home. I love working most with first time home buyers as they take their first steps into home ownership. I also love working with those who have lived all their lives in their home, helping them make it shine once again to make the very most of the sale of their home. I am there through it all and with a background in art and design with my professional camera in hand I can take a home from a cluttered mess to simply staged and beautifully photographed. I especially love helping people unlock investment potential and help them see future options that a property could have for both them or for future increased resale value.
