This 10.33-acre mining claim located along Cement Creek Road offers year-round automobile access and excellent southern exposure. It is just a seven-minute walk (half a mile) from the Silverton Mountain ski lift. Power and telephone lines run along the main road. An unplowed county road winds through the property, crossing Georgia Creek and then switchbacking through stunning backcountry ski terrain that leads directly to the property. The Dooley Claim features a short, sealed adit with a pipe that drains natural iron springs, the same water that nourishes the natural iron fens just off the property line. The tunnel extends only a short distance into the mountain before intersecting with the naturally occurring iron springs, which led to its abandonment. No minerals were ever extracted from the site, and there has been no man-made pollution present, aside from the construction of a small flume and two small settling ponds (with the lower pond entirely on BLM land). The Dooley Claim was part of a group of 45 sites included in the 2015 Superfund Decision. However, the EPA completed all necessary mitigation work on the property in October 2024. While there are safe potential building sites available, much of the land consists of meadows in an avalanche runout zone, making it ideal for summer livestock grazing. The claim holds 51% mineral rights. There are no building rights by default in San Juan County; a buyer must follow the County's requirements to obtain permits.
